If you are purchasing your new home with an FHA loan, you must be sure you aren't looking at houses that will result in a mortgage balance higher than what FHA allows. For example, if the FHA loan limit in your county is $271,050, you cannot purchase a home for $350,000 with an FHA loan unless you are willing to put down $78,950.

Some counties, where home values are higher, have limits significantly higher than most of the country. Please use the FHA Loan Limit Lookup Tool to find FHA loan limits in your area.
